Louise Place is a support and accommodation service for pregnant or parenting young women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. There are four programs run from the Louise Place site:
- On site: there are 8 units which are rented out to young women 18 and under who are pregnant or parenting, and to whom we offer support, education, opportunities to work on their goals around their own longer term housing, parenting, assistance with budgeting, hygiene, nutrition, learning to live independently. There is no lower age limit, and the young women can come to us at any stage in their pregnancy – we see this service as a continual learning opportunity for the young women.
- Outreach: we also sublet 8 houses in the community to young women 18-25 who are pregnant or parenting. During their stay in these houses we work as above but from a distance – encouraging the young women to develop independent living skills, whilst renting in the community; additionally we work with other young women in the same circumstance who may not require accommodation from us, but require support or assistance with some area of their pregnancy or parenting.
- High School: on site there is a campus of OLSH (Our Lady of Sacred Heart College), at which the young women can continue with their high school requirements whilst pregnant or parenting. The young women can access SACE subjects, TAFE and Open Access – encouraging the young women to continue with their formal education around their life choices.
- Day Care Centre: this centre is open three days a week and offers child minding for the young women whilst they are studying or participating in work on their Case Plans, or dealing with appointments on site.
Louise Place appreciates the many different sources and types of donations that we receive, without these it would be difficult to continue to operate, as government funding is limited, and does not allow for the expanse of programs we offer. Louise Place is a Centacare service. Thank you.
